Mushfiq makes late entry into IPL auction
Experienced Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim made a late entry into the auction for Indian Premier League, his local agent said on Thursday.
The name of Mushfiq is listed in the wicketkeeper category where he has a base price of one crore Indian rupee.
After remaining unsold in the previous 13 auctions, Mushfiq was reluctant to get involved with the process this year.
But his name appeared for auction, scheduled today, following a request from the tournament organisers.
‘The IPL authority has requested the BCB to put Mushfiq’s name also in the list. Therefore we have agreed to put his name on the list,’ said Barshan Kabir, an official of NIBCO, the company which represents Mushfiq in Bangladesh.
Initially, five Bangladeshis – Shakib Al Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman, Soumya Sarkar, Liton Das and Mahmudullah – registered their name for IPL.
But after the initial pruning by the franchises, Soumya and Liton were dropped and Mohammad Saifuddin was included in the list.
With the inclusion of Mushfiq, Bangladesh has now five cricketers in the auction.
The auction will begin at 3:30 pm Bangladesh time in Chennai.
