The University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh organized a workshop for around 70 faculty members and officials from Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) and Bangamata Sheikh Fojilatunnesa Mujib Science & Technology University (BSFMSTU).
The workshop, titled “Annual Performance Agreement (APA) Planning and Implementation: Challenges and Transitions,” was held on Saturday (June 29) at 10:30 am in the Agriculture Faculty Conference Room at BAU.
In his address, Professor Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, UGC’s Additional Chairman, emphasized the crucial role of education in advancing the nation. He stated, “Our primary goal is to move the country forward, and there is no alternative to education in achieving this. Only an exemplary teacher can ensure quality education and high-standard research, shaping students into ideal citizens and valuable assets to the country. Skilled teachers are also essential in maintaining the quality of higher education.”
During the event, he provided necessary guidelines for improving the quality of education and research in universities.
The workshop was presided over by UGC Secretary Dr. Ferdous Zaman with Special guest Professor Dr. Md. Golam Rabbani, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at BAU, also attended the event.
Discussing the role of agricultural scientists, Dr. Zaman stated that agricultural universities have played a significant role in meeting the food needs of millions through exceptional research. Despite the decreasing amount of arable land, Bangladesh has become self-sufficient in food and fish resources, thanks to the contributions of agricultural scientists.
Dr. Zaman also mentioned that the current government has placed significant emphasis on higher education. He urged everyone in the higher education sector to continue advancing this progress.
During the various sessions of the workshop, faculty members from BAU, JKKNIU, and BSFMSTU presented their respective universities’ APA activities.
