Science and Technology desk:
Two harmful bacteria were found in poultry feed in Dinajpur district. The feeds commonly used in four poultry farms of Dinajpur district were investigated and found Escherichia coli and Salmonella bacteria. The research was published in International Journal of Natural and Social Sciences (volume 1, issue 1, page 1-7). According to the researcher, the prevalence of Escherichia coli was 37.50% and Salmonella was 29.16% in the feed samples. The presence of these two bacteria was also observed in poultry liter at the rate of 87.50% for Escherichia coli and 66.66% for salmonella. The results suggest that poultry litter is the major source of both Escherichia coli and Salmonella for birds reared in litter system. The presence of Salmonella at the recorded rate in both the feed and litter pose significant alarming for the public health issue if not maintain proper hygienic steps in place. Scientist also said these two bacteria can be transmitted from poultry meat, litter or feed to human.
